The historic Chicago Water Tower was built back in 1869. The building is located in the northern portion of Chicago Avenue’s Magnificent Mile. It is one of the two buildings that withstand the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The fire razed the entire city to the ground, but this one building survived along with a pumping station nearby. The building survived the fire perhaps because it is constructed of limestone blocks.
